As Mark said earlier, we're fortunate that the R's retained control of the House - we can only hope for more gridlock to slow the creeping progression towards the final demise of our great country. My concern is for the Supreme Court appointees, and whatever Executive Orders the president feels compelled to issue. I doubt seriously that anything will become of the investigations into Fast and Furious, or this Administration's woeful incompetence in Benghazi.

Clearly Mitt Romney was right - there are far too many people, that are content to suckle at the teat of the US taxpayer. We've crossed that threshold, and I don't see it changing until the financial collapse of this country.

These last four years were the longest of my life - I held out hoping that it would all change on the 6th. My wife has owned a legitimate travel agency for the last 13 years, and has watched her client base slowly dry up. She has been in tears knowing that another four years of this president, and his horrible handling of the economy, is the final death blow to her business.

Would it be wrong for me to place an upside down American flag sticker on my car? Isn't that the sign of distress? Because that's sure how I feel right now.

I thought about that with my flag too. Wonder what kind of response I would get.

Judges still have to be confirmed but we know there is no hope anyone will stand up and do it.

I think I'll do the flag thing. The libs won't notice and even if they did, they wouldn't know what it means.

Think of it as the secret handshake among us.

Actually my socialist loving brother in law has displayed the flag upside down for many years. I can't bring myself to taking down my flag, to me it still represents what the country can get back to and the beliefs many of us would fight/die to defend/reinstate. I think I may have to add another flag post (live in a rental so we don't have a pole) and fly a Gadsden flag underneath the American flag. And lets not kid ourselves about Arizona being a conservative hold out. There are lots of Californian's bringing thier politics here and even scarier the younger generation (ashamed to be grouped in) that helped with Obama's win. As gun owners we all need to become more involved in fighting for gun rights over the next 4 years.

Not only Californians but I suspect many New Yorkers may be looking to relocate soon too.

My car has always had an American Flag and Gadsden Flag decal and always will. I took my flag down on my house during the monsoons because of the cheap ass brackets breaking and haven't put it back up to this day. I can not see doing that at the moment with the recent election unless I put it up upside down. I have noticed since the election a few new flags that have gone up.

I am not trying to stir the flames of debate here. I am simply passing along information.

§176. Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.
a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

My $.02 on the flag thing...
don't fly it upside down please. It will not be viewed well by many on your side and definately not help convert others. Consider changing over to an AZ flag, Gadsen or and older US flag that represents what you believe...even perhaps a III'per flag? There is no "good" that will come from it that i can see...
Symbols have power, and our flag is one of the brightest symbols out there. I have tried hard over the past decade to "find the good" and be a more positive person. There is a positive (possibly several) in the recent events, find them and become empowered by them (or their absence)....
***Cheesy alert***- re-watch some Star Wars movies, get some inspiration from art...the Jedi ideals got that shit right. Most of all hold your head high, be proud and be a motivator for positive change. Good triumphs evil in the end, but you must fight the anger and find peace in the situation you are in.

Glen, you ARE a better man and a better patriot for going through this experience. We never stop learning from our experiences. If nothing else you've made us all consider what the flag means to us personally and how much we love this country and the ideals that made it great. Because of your post I have gone from the brink of defeat to realizing it's up to everyone of us to be true patriots, spread the word, and fight for what's right. The revolutionaries didn't give up and we won't either. We must spread the word, teach our children what is right, and stay vigilant for future disgraces to this nation. Going forward me and my daughter will not be reading Cat in the Hat but instead will read the Constitution. People will one day seek out freedoms like they did hundreds of years ago and we will be there, not to say I told you so but rather to guide them back to where every citizen of America belongs.

i still love this country too and will fight for it to give my kids (present and coming) what it was meant to be, not what it is turning out to be.

My thoughts and comments to fly my flag upside down are political and I respect/love this country and our flag and all it stands for. I guess by considering to fly my flag upside down I am trying to show my way of life and property (freedom, liberty and happiness) at risk, maybe some agree. I am not happy by the recent results but still have some hope we can get back on track. Just hope it is sooner than later. The way we are headed doesn't look good.

i saw this a while ago and thought it was a good idea. Maybe more than ever now. Need to read up on it.

I appreciate reading everyone's repsonses. I'm going to have to do some soul searching - I posed the question about upside down, because I didn't want to be disrespectful, but I want to express my concern for the future of this country.

I think maybe a Gadsen or III percenter decal on the car could better serve my purposes.

Resurrection of a dead thread...

The American Flag stands for an ideal, not for the people of the land that it flies over. I believe in the American ideal, and I love this Country, and I would give everything I own for its success. 51% of the people that inhabit this Country may not agree with that, but I don't need them to. If I only had a 1% chance to save the American ideal, I would fight for it - because a chance is a chance.

Tonight as i sit here in a quiet house i thought of this thread, the emotions and thoughts that went into each post. My house is quiet because the children and Mrs.TCB are asleep. Safe and secure by the blessings of liberty, and no shortage of good fortune. As i sit here i can see the lit up tree adorned with ornaments and gifts, our copy of the Declaration of Independence and off in the distant shadows the dream that was America. Since Friday and i first heard the news of the terrible tragedy in CT i have wept. For the families and the tiny lives so full of hope that are gone. Sometimes for a specific person or story, other times for no reason at all. Most of all now, for my country and her people with the turmoil ahead. For on Friday 12/14 our nation rotated even further than i could imagine. People on all sides of the paradigm dug in, "for hell or high water" to advance their cause.
I am reminded of Col. Cooper “The will to survive is not as important as the will to prevail... " and prevail we must. Starting today I am looking at the entire structure and "influence" I may have as a father, husband, friend and entrepreneur. I am personally making a change, a change to try and influence others to stand up, take charge and effect positive change in the world. Words are important to me and over the past year I have struggled to put a name on that feeling...for whatever reason I chose not to notice it already had one. (Several actually) Loyalty, honesty and bravery were the basis for Bushido hundreds of years ago...today that word could be "Sheepdog." This past year i have made a huge gain on the path to those virtues, (in no small part thanks to this board and several of its members) but my journey is far from over.
To those of you that agree with me I ask 2 things:
1) Improve yourself, only though personal growth can you help others.
2) Stay positive and on track. The country may never get to your ideal, but maybe that is the point.

"Give us clear vision, that we may know where to stand and what to stand for - because unless we stand for something, we shall fall for anything."
~ Peter Marshall, US Senate Chaplain 1947
Tonight will be a change for me and my focus, and i hope several others join me for the ride.

I'm with you friend, to the bitter end.... With everything that has happened this week to myself and to this country I couldn't even sleep last night. However, I'm still flying my flag and brainstorming on how I can most positively influence current events.
