is the need of a non-gun oriented person for an easy to use, effective home-defense weapon. I do not regard any longarm as being a good choice in the home, because it's just not likely enough to be at hand when the need for defense arises. However, a laser sighted, used condition $200 Hi Point 9mm carbine is as good as it gets for this role. The 100 gr Corbon jhps attain over 1600 fps in the carbine barrel, for nearly 600 ft lbs of power. yet the recoil, blast, and flash are quite mild. When using cast bullet reloads, the 9mm carbine is welcome at many ranges, so you can practice with it. 223's and shotguns are not welcome at ranges which use slanted steel backstops. The 9'mm's low levels of blast and recoil mean that 12c per shot .22's can be effective training for use of the 9mm, as can the LaserLyte device and Airsoft replicas.
