So I am still in the process of setting up my pack and am now at the point where I need to look at sleeping pads.

What pads have you all used and which do you like the best?

The Cabela's XPG Ultralight Sleeping pads look pretty decent:

Or the Cabela's XPG Sleeping pad:

Then there is also the Cabela's Self-Inflating Sleeping Pads:

Over the years I have had both...the self inflating ones weigh more if your on a real back packing trip. If just for tenting or under the stars I really like the self inflating ones.

Get the XPG ultralight for backpacking, or the self-inflating pad for car camping.

Yeah it is, but I was referring to the one that used "self-inflating" in the title - this one: http://www.cabelas.c...80;cat104484780

I would get this one: http://www.cabelas.c...%3Bcat104484780

That is the one I am leaning towards, however, they only seem to have the 72" available. Maybe I should check the store. :)

Here is one I'm going to buy and try. Very small and lightweight. They have a couple other designs as well. As I get older, I'm looking for every way I can to trim weight.

After using the "self inflating pads" for years and having to blow them up anyway I've switched to a much more comfortable (and light weight) air mattresses. Here are two that are currently rated highly but not cheap. My wife and I both have the big agnes. The exped is lighter if you can stomach the cost:

Funky. I'd love to hear your review on that. The exped is only like 15 ounces and you get a full matt at close to the same size.

I have a Big Agnes and it is my current go-to pad. Much better than the Thermolites I've tried. I like the idea of the Klymit because it is lighter, allows for some air circulation, and gives some sleeping bag loft for cold weather. I'll do a review when I get one.

The thing I like about a full pad (such as the Big Agnes/Thermarest) is that in a wet environment it helps to keep you above the moisture. My Thermarest has saved me several times from being wet when a sudden downpour/snow storm drops in during the night.
