Because you haven't been on the other board long enough.. If you had seen it in in glory days you would know what you were missing.

I don't want to be "that guy" but what is so horrible about AZS?

Don't get me wrong I like this site and all, but sites with a ton of members will always bring the stupid in it's own special way.

Arfcom lite anyone?

You are exactly correct, maybe what it comes down to is how you deal with those types of members :unknown:

I guess I'm in the minority. I don't really care how people berate me on the internet. I know I can back what I talk, and I try to post only out of personal experience.

That being said I don't go out of my way to be a jerk off on the internet. Okay, well, sometimes :p

It's been well documented why people think they way they do about AZS, Brad. You know that. The place just has a generally unfriendly vibe anymore. And people do go out of their way to be pricks on that site. For no other reason than to be an intarweb hard-on. The site used to be friendly with good info. Now you have to wade through peoples' smart assed, unhelpful comments, people trashing a thread just to trash it or because of who started it or because someone dares disagree with their opinion to find a modicum of information. Maybe you just haven't been there long enough to remember the good days.

But Mike is absolutely right. It is how you deal with stupid people, or in AZS's case the lack of how they deal with some yet crush others.

If there wasn't a majority of people tired of it, there wouldn't have been sites like this and several others started as alternatives.

Oh what I meant was how the site's staff deal with those types of members :)

I try not to be a jerk off either, however, who has not had a night of mixing a little Crown Black with a keyboard

I rarely get accused of being overburdened with an abundance of education so could someone put it in plain black and white for me? Or supply some links or something?

Dieselpowered, I would never accuse you of that. You seem to be a pretty laid back easy to deal with dude. Like I said I have no complaints about this site, partly because I feel that I can offer my opinion and people may actually read it and feel free to question me on it. On a big site, nobody would care what one fat guy has to say about shooting.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not hating on this site, just questioning the hate for AZS as I'm dumb and obviously don't get it.

I edited my post to include what I was talking about. Maybe you don't spend enough time in the general firearms forum to see. But that's all I'm going to say about it. I'm not going to post links and call specific people out. Partly because I would prefer them not showing up here and when you start naming names, people tend to run to those people and tell them they are being talked about. The main issues I have is the racism, cronyism, elitism and selective moderating... ism. LOL.

If you don't feel that same way as some of the people here, no biggie. But a good group of people seem to think there is an issue there, several actually. As I said, if they didn't, they wouldn't be here posting the comments they do.

Oh I didn't think you were, I was simply stating that I have had a few times where I went back to a site the next day and, well...lets just say I had to send some 'I'm Sorry' messages

That said, I don't think you are hating on this site at all! :)

I'll be the first to admit, I read a lot of forums (SR, Arfcom, Glocktalk, AZS, XDforum, 1911talk, 6.8 and even lurk on M4carbine). I enjoy reading them all but realized I am very selective on what I care to open up and read. I still read AZS but mainly for the classifieds, other than that I usually only spend a few minutes online. AZS and to some extent the HTF on AR15 seems like the topics and feedback just run out of gas. I guess as in AZS, I got tired of the same folks trying to dominate the conversation and bully out the little guy. Almost feels like being part of a fraternity or clicke, therefore I get little entertainment or information value out of the threads.

I like this forum as I know and have shot with some of the posters and know they are the real deal. So if they happen to disagree with something I post, I respect it because I know the're not just trolling but actually voicing a valued opinion. Maybe that is what so far makes this site different is that there seems to be some manner of respect for each other and posting seems to happen when a person feels he may have something of value to contribute or to ask...

Anyway that is my babble for the evening...

I guess my deal is that I have shot and continue to shoot with most of the people that everyone considers the bad seeds on AZS. They all school me on a regular basis and that is why I value their opinion on things.

I have become a much better shooter as a direct result of those guys watching me fail, telling me how I failed, and then correcting the fail.

I'm sure that the names that everyone could post as the "AZS ASSHOLES" would be the very same that I have learned a TON from and consider good buddies.

There in lies my problem I guess. I know that these guys can shoot, therefore I listen to them.

I wouldn't put any of your "buddies" into the racist category. And that, I believe is a HUGE issue there with some members. And I think racists are FAR bigger assholes than your buddies, if that makes you feel better! LOL.

And there are PLENTY of other assholes on the site that troll, bait, argue for the sake of arguing and just starting shit because of who started the post or responded that are not your buddies. So just so you are clear, your buddies are only a fraction of the reason I stopped posting there.

Regarding your buddies, you haven't had the same experience as I have had, and others have had, with them, and that's good. But to me there seems to be too many people with the same complaints about the same people to dismiss them. That's just my opinion though.

To me it doesn't matter what you know, what you can do, etc... if you have a bad attitude with me about it. No quicker way to lose my attention and respect than a bad attitude. That goes for anything I'm interested in: shooting, cooking, music, etc... I can learn the same things from others without the attitude and have a much better experience.

I used to have a sig line that said "An asshole with knowledge is still an asshole."

To each their own.

ETA: I think we've discussed AZS enough. People have their reasons. We don't want the negativity towards that place or its members to bring this place down. No one is going to agree on everything all the time. And that's cool with me.

you have a point there Brian. "To each their own"

I guess it could be the way I was taught from the get go. All the way up to the way I've been taught to now.

I don't respond negatively to "negative input" as a matter of fact when somebody looks at me and tells me "you're fucked up" I try to listen to what they are saying.

I have had a former special forces OPERATOR, with whom I paid a significant amount of money to take his class, look me in the eyes and say "you lefties are all fucked up" and to follow he showed me how he taught other lefty operators how to run an AR. I didn't take offense to it because great knowledge followed.

Some people have a harsh way of teaching. I try to take it in stride as long as the knowledge is good. I know that he doesn't mean any personal harm by it, that's just his way of teaching.

Negative input and harsh teachers are not the same as someone with a bad attitude. I can take negative input no problem. I can take harsh teachers no problem. Talk down to me and you've lost me and my respect.

Well it's still like you said. To each their own.

Talk down to me, tell me I can't do it, and I will say in my head "fuck that guy" and I will do my damnedest to do what he said I can't do. If I can't do it at first, I will practice till I can.

It's a great feeling when you can give that person the bird while you are doing what they said you couldn't do.
