Sam...i hate you
Jason, Sometimes I hate myself. Do you realize how difficult it is trying to decide what I am going to take out to shoot?

anm2_manI think Sam bought those German weapons a while back. So what position were you in at the Big Sandy ?
You are correct those MG's were bought in the 90's when prices were still affordable. I do not attend the Big Sandy Shoot due to health reasons. Many of my friends are regulars there. Kenyon Tucker and Ed Hope were trying for years to get me attend but it's just a bridge to far. I wish I could so I only shoot my MG's these days at local shoots here in Prescott. When Bob Faris was still alive I used to go to Wickenberg and go with Bob and George Campbell to their favorite spots out in the desert and shoot all day long. Those were the days I will fondly remember.

Your PIc of the MG34, sure looks like the Big Sandy, thats why I asked. I know what you mean about attending these events. I used to go to Dry Creek for several years and then continued at the Big Sandy up to 2 years ago. I didn't miss one. But as you get older sometimes you just can't do it. Some health reasons had stopped me from attending in Spring 2011 and Spring 2012 shoots. Now I have some torn ligaments in my left hand, but hoping it mends so I can to attend this fall. That is assuming I can get some help from the young guys that have some class III's that I hang around with. But after I had met Faris and seen him at every shoot (And he was a lot older than me), I decided I had to try as much as I can.

Our Shooting line in Prescott used to have large Ponderosa pines we could sit under and get some shade. Unfortunately some of the idiots the shoot there over time shot all 3 of them down. So now our line is as bare as it is at the Big Sandy. The blue tarp under my mount used to keep brass in check so we could police it up. unfortunately the Forrest Service will no longer let us shoot there and I am told citations have been issued. Hers how it used to look looking back on the loading zone. That is me setting up my MG 34 and my Vickers. That's Bob Faris in the background and 2 of his MG's to the left of mine.
You Probably know my buddy Jim Haak of Northern Arizona Ammunition. He is the one that sells the specialty ammo at the Big Sandy. The concrete slab is where we have to shoot now and we are limited to 75-100 yards. Not as much fun as it used to be.
