I'm right handed and an external safety would be preferred

Then the only P226 you would be looking for is the SA one as the DAO and DAK have no external safeties and the SA/DA has no safety, but has a decocker.

Any info on a Ruger SR9 or a Sig SP2022?

A decocker wouldn't be bad, Flash. But if there's a safety I'd like it to be external.

A Sig SP2022 is a DA/SA only, and has a decocker with no safety.

A friend carries one daily and I've shot it. It's a nice gun.

The SR9 has an ambidextrious safety and a magazine safety and it's a striker fired gun. http://www.ruger.com...9/features.html

I've never fired the SR9.

Alright so turns out my LGS and range doesn't have gun rentals. However, I did get to a gun store today and have decided on my top 5. In no particular order, of course:

CZ 75 P-07
CZ 75 B
Sig Pro SP2022
FNX FNP-9
Ruger SR9

I also noted but forgot to handle the Sig P250, so add that to my list, I have 6 technically. So any info on these would be very appreciated. Thanks again everyone!

I have an FNX-9, and think it's better suited to carry than range fun. Great gun, but the fun factor isn't there for me. Maybe a CZ-75?

I had a P250, ergonomics were awesome, sights were great, DAO was a deal breaker for me. Of your short list I still highly recommend the CZ 75 or CZ 75 B

You are wrong to exclude the .22. .22 lr is not hard to find. Not if you'll pay the going price, which is 12c per shot. while that IS twice too high, it's still 1/2 what 9mm costs. Get a Browning Buckmark, 4" skinny barrel so that you can hike with it or ccw if you need to do so. Buy it used, thru the Net classifieds, for $250 OUT THE DOOR. Don't worry about chips in the grips, blueing wear, etc, and that price can be had. After you've put 10,000 rds thru it, thus saving yourself $250 in ammo costs, you can always sell it to a private party for $200, or to an FFL for $150. Learn to fast draw with it, use a flashlight at night, use cover, all those things with either hand. Then you won't be wasting a lot of time and money on centerfire ammo.
Or get a Twisted Industries .22 unit for the Ruger pocket 9mm. get the triggr pts kit for the Ruge

I have a CZ Phantom and it is one fine gun. Also own an FNS-40. Love the sights and it's another fine firearm. Might I also suggest a Canik 55/ Tristar? Based on CZ designs. All steel 9mm. Sell for $320-$360. Excellent build quality. Excellent first gun.
