Anyone plan on catching Doomsday Preppers on the Natgeo channel starting this week? My take on it just from commercials is they are choosing to showcase the most "colorful" folks they could find to make for good tv. I know Rizzo touched on keeping a low profile in an earlier post and I can't believe that anyone with months of stored food and dozens of guns would show them on national TV, they are bonkers. They will be the first to be taken out if a disaster does strike. That is if they don't get robbed before the shtf. One person recognizes the house on tv is a mile down the road and pretty soon 500 people nearby know about it. Talk about a lack of operational security sheesh. I don't tell anyone what I have and when I do talk about prepping I keep it very general. Also, couldn't help but notice during the previews the woman shooting a pistol had terrible form...like a lot of people they appeared to be compensating for a lack of proficiency with thousands of hoarded rounds. Can't tell you how many people I know who can't hit a barn and never go training but proudly display their 20 thousand rounds of ammo sealed neatly in a closet. *rolls eyes* I would rather partner up with someone who is skillful and has 100 rounds in their pack than a "talker" with thousands...Sorry, apparently I am all fired up on this beautiful saturday morning!

:morning:

These types of shows are generally not positive, in my experience. They will find the most crazy, most drama-filled, and most ridiculous people and put them on there. That makes for good television, but as we all know it is far from the truth. It's why I don't even watch TV, haven't for years. I find it to be nearly useless.

And you're 100% right about OPSEC - anyone who would consider going on such a show has none.

I will watch it. I watched the last one and thought it was pretty good. If you believe in being prepared then you can learn a little something from it.

What did you learn from the last one?

Exactly. Just more drama filled *reality* TV with WalMart shoppers of the month. Sort of like the earlier version of this where one of the "preppers" lives here in Phoenix. I wonder how many new *friends* they are going to have.

What did you learn from the last one?

Where to get food :)

I didn't think the first one was bad but wasn't the best show either. Had my wife watch it and it helped her realize shit can happen outside of her bubble and she wasn't bad to begin with. The new series looks exactly like what you are talking about it, drama and may bring some negative to preparedness.

I do like that being prepared is getting some attention though.

Just got around to watching the 2/14 episode...first off the guy gave away his super secret underground bunker location, then he almost shoots his thumb off!! "The gun malfunctioned" he says. The only malfunction was putting your damn thumb on the end of the barrel and pulling the trigger! So the tough guy hits the dirt, takes one look at it, and it appears he goes into shock. Oh but no worries, his guns all had expensive stocks and paint jobs!!!
